Forgiveness |

If you do not avert your eyes—how easy it is to look away in these times—a day will come when the world will appear as little else but a tragedy to you.

I do not know how much time will then pass, but some distant day you will encounter a man. A man about to die. A man who has been torn from his family, beaten, starved, tortured, and ultimately left to bleed to death.

He will look at you and reach for your hand.

He will say to you, “Don’t cry.”

He, gasping for air, will say to you, “I have forgiven them.”
