In the midst of humanity typified by division and detestation for each other, one cannot help but notice how unprecedented was the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
The state, the church, and the crowds—vehement opponents—united in their enmity against a single man.
Even intra-divisions melted away. “And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.”
For a world marred and disillusioned in its costly quest for unity, the beacon of the Cross remains lit. For two thousand years it has weathered assaults, persecution, slander, hypocrisy, and more.
This beacon reveals a darkness inside us all—the fundamental reason for our disunity—but even greater reminds us of the infinite extent to which we are loved, beckoning us towards light, towards land, towards home.
