Violation of Love

If love is the distillation of how God has commanded us in His law to live—“the greatest commandment”—and sin is a violation of God’s law, then sin is a violation of love.

Whether outward or inward, whether violence, insult, greed, envy, lust, etc., they are all a violation of love, of the God who is love and who knit us together in our mother’s womb, of our fellow humans and creatures, and of ourselves.

If and when God’s law confounds you (or perhaps more likely we as Christians attempting to explain it—even some, sadly, willfully distorting it), remember that Jesus told us He came to fulfill this law. And what if not love was the essence of His life?
