Madness & Lament

What is the point in saying anything now that we’ve all gone mad? Madness hears nothing nor cares to hear.

What else is there to say except that we’ve all gone mad? The elephant is all that’s left of the room.

In these senseless times, silence seems the wisest course. But this kind of reactive silence tends to forget that even when there was no one left to hear Jesus as He was dying on a cross—not even the Father—still He cried out to Him.

Lament to God may be the last defense between reason and hysteria in our minds, compassion and callousness in our hearts. If we express our pain to God, we may remain open to another’s—by God’s grace—even if they should remain closed to ours.
