Liberation

Only two roads lead to liberation: Power and Love. No other roads go all the way.

Of the two, power gets “us” to a certain kind of liberation more quickly. But power cannot liberate us from ourselves. Only love can do that.

When love liberates us from ourselves, it enables us to sacrifice our own means and ends for the good of others; and so too are others liberated from us.

This road to liberation, not reciprocated (as is often the case), may cost us everything or a significant amount. It may perpetuate or result in our bondage, in the preservation of or ceding to an oppressive power.

But so long as we cannot part with power or any other thing, we may be free but are not yet free. So long as we believe power indispensable to liberation—no matter how properly we have calculated the danger of power in evil hands—we have greatly underestimated love.
